All about the Fentanyl Citrate Lollipop (Actiq Brand Opiate Pain Medication)

fentanyl lolli

About

ACTIQ made these powerful candies to treat breakthrough pain in cancer patients 16 years of age and older who are already receiving and who are tolerant to around-the-clock opioid therapy for their cancer pain.

Legally, these meds are only dispensed to patients that are enrolled in the TIRF REMS Access program.

Dosage

These lollipops come in pretty high dosages because this medication is intended for cancer patients who are experiencing intense breakthrough pain.

They range from 200, 400, 600, 800, 1200, and 1600??g (microgram)?doses per lollipop.

These doses are very high for an opiate and present a strong risk for those who are not highly opiate tolerant.?There is a very real risk of overdose and death if incorrectly administered.

To get an idea of how extremely potent Fentanyl is, consider this:?The 1600 ?g?lollipop is equipotent to 160mg of morphine. That’s very strong.?Additionally, the oral bioavailability of morphine is 25%, but the oral bioavailability of fentanyl is 50%. So really, 1600?g?of this stuff is could be considered equal to 320 mg of morphine.

Very. Dangerous.

fentanyl lollipop side effects

The high doses present in these things can be dangerous, causing some severe opioid side effects. You’ll pick up a tolerance very quickly from these, if you don’t have it already that is. Also, these things can be very addictive. Remember, this stuff is way stronger than morphine.

Also, the sugar content is very high in these. So long term application of the lollipops has been known to cause dental issues like cavities. This happens quicker when the lollipop (sugar) is placed directly against the gums for long periods of time where there is no protective enamel.

Best ways to administer.

Many users have reported that it is better to put it under your tongue or in your cheeks and you shouldn?t suck on it, but rather just leave in your mouth for 15-30 minutes.

Mouth absorption (transmucosally) gives about 50% bioavailability, while oral consumption / swolling the medication proves around 33% bioavailability. The stomach absorbs Fentanyl very poorly.

Price / Street Price

The pharmacy price for these is around $10 a pop.

For street prices, they range from $15 to $50. Sometimes more. The amount of drug compared to the price is often extravagant, but people who abuse these enjoy the novelty of the lollipop and find it worthwhile.

Dangers associated with fentanyl lollipop abuse

When compared to other opioids available Fentanyl is definitely one of the most potent available.

So potent, in fact, that it has Fentanyl carries the highest rate of respiratory depression of the readily available opioids in the world. Couple this with it’s effects being far less “euphoric” than it’s opioid cousins (oxycodone, morphone, heroin etc.. ), and you have a dangerous mix.

Often times people can overdose and die without even feeling any of the particularly pleasurable effects they are accustomed to experiencing with other opiates.

What have your experiences been like with the Fentanyl lollipop? Let us know in the comments.

    1. Call the DEA, they’d be delighted to help you out! Why not, I mean, you all are coming across the border for a lifetime of freebies anyway. I bet, if you ask the border agents, they’ll give you a box along with a bus ticket to anyplace you’d like to go!

  3. I’m living in the rep of Ireland and have a very rare cancer called familial adematotous polyposis Coli , I’ve have 4 major surgeries that removed all my large, small bowel, Abus, rectum, spincter muscles leaving me with an illeostomy and urine bag, Im 50 now and was diagnosed at 36, it’s now gone terminal with an 18 month prognosis altho the MdAnderson clinic in Houston , Texas told me that they can do a double transplant operation plus the removal of 7 of my 9 intra abdominal tumours, 2 can’t be removed due to where they are, the operation if successful would add as much as 10 yrs to my life, however the Irish government won’t pay for the surgery cause the USA is not in the EU , I was self employed for 20 yrs with 8 employees and paid my taxes every yr plus all my employees taxes etc until I had to stop working 4 yrs ago, despite the millions I paid in taxes they still won’t pay my operation, yet refugees are pouring into Ireland , especially polish , and they are getting everything they want off the government even tho they haven’t paid a cent in taxes in Ireland , they are getting houses, free medical and doctor cards, all meds, ops etc paid for, it’s sickening me to the point I feel like just giving it all up and killing myself and getting over with all the physical pain Im in but then I think of my kids and decide I would not put them thru that, they are going thru enough looking at me in pain everyday ,trying to manage my pain, living with my two bags that keep leaking all the time, it’s just a horrible life, the main daily meds Im on are 5 x 800ug & 4 x 600ug fentanyl lozenges a day, 160 mg of oxycontin in the morning and the same at night (320 BD) 30 mg dalmane ( sleepers) 2 x 30mgs (60 mgs) mitrazapine ( PTSD) 3 x 300mg LYRICA for the fibromyalgia. I spend most of the day doped up and would love to be off these tablets but every so often I stop taking them for a few days and when I do, i really realise how bad the pain of cancer really is. Now I’m trying to raise ?200,000 for my operation and despite the national papers and radio stations doing my story, no one donates a cent, I’ve tried go fund me.com and ?60 was lodged in 12 months, time is running out and its my kids ,my girls 28,26,16,15 my son 17 and my 4 grandkids all under 5 that I feel sorry for, because even tho I’m only 50. They see the agony Im in and this operation will take away most of this pain and give me so many more years with them but no one gives a damn. I’ve given to charity all my life and when I contacted these charities for help they said they can’t help individuals so I’ve stopped being so generous with the little money I have. I just don’t know what to do or where to turn next. Why don’t people care ? I bet you if I was a refugee I woukd get whatever I wabt. It’s sad it’s sickening.
    Thank you

Can’t you go to Canada or another Eu country like Germany or Russia

    2. Jesus Christ what the fuck is are country’s comeing to!! If that stories doesn’t motivate someone or somebody to help this poor guy and his family should be a fuckin shame of themselves!!

      1. It is as absolutely as disgusting as it appears. Just don’t ever give up thinking so. I do not shake hands with a doctor or anyone else until Trump is out of office and de-famed.

Maybe it’s a good thing that we find out how many ghouls there actually are in this country.

It would be less mean to actually allow people to shoot people in Chronic Pain than to allow the inhuman to force them into a life of incomprehensible misery.

    3. I am praying for you….God will deliver you…believe that, and trust Him…nothing else matters.

Hey Jack, I am so sorry to read about your story. Mine is semi similar but I am half your age but not terminal yet. Fortunately I have good insurance here in the states but sadly they do not understand dick about the brain or CNS. My suggestion to someone in your position is hard to make because with such a short time left you may not want to risk the chance of wasting it rather than be with your loved ones. But since we cannot change or fight the f’ed systems we are in, if you cannot beat them, join them. Become a refugee via some other country even if you need to fake papers etc, and see if you could get your much needed surgery and meds this way. I know it is kind of messed up, but they are the ones forcing our hands. Unless the pain is too much and you lost the will to live a long life (as I have, true pain sufferers or those terminal will understand, but unfortunately that is all). But is sounds like this is not the case for you, and I understand the time it would require, so I would find the correct place to go and have this done the fastest and perhaps it would work in a shorter amount of time than I am thinking, thus extending your time with your loved ones. I am truly sorry for what you are going through and I hate to even type some of what I am typing, but TPTB have forced this situation on us, so if need be, learn to use it not only against them, but to your advantage. Once again I wish you the best!

  5. My wife is suffering (diagnosed) with Bechet Syndrome. She has had the majority of her colon removed due to this disease. When she takes meds in pill form, it usually comes out whole through her digestive system. She was approved the Fentanyl lollipops over 15 years ago to help her with her break through pain. She’s also on the Fentanyl patch. Even with these meds she is still suffering from intense pain throughout her abdomen area, however, the lollipops were the best form of taking the break through med due to the sublingual delivery, most important, she was able to have some quality of life. Without written explanation she was denied the lollipops, because she wasn’t a cancer patient. As we all know “pain” is a subjective matter. How does one measure pain?? How can a committee of politicians/doctors/ insurance companies conclude that only cancer patients can feel the pain, which would require Fentanyl lollipops, but No One else with intense, debilitating pain can reach the exact level of pain as a cancer patient? Many cancer patients do not feel intense pain or require a high level of pain control. So if this has been the only successful remedy for her break through pain, WHY strip her of pain relief?? Oh, I see…too expensive…because it’s being abused illegally on the streets…the behind the doors negotiations with the Pharmaceutical Companies & Health Insurance Companies?? Sounds like TRUE care for a legitimate suffering patient isn’t their concern. Their money arrangements are THE PRIORITY, not individual care, on a case by case basis. The only relief I have, when it’s all said and done, is that they will have a day of reckoning with the “ALMIGHTY CEO!”

    1. AMEN, Jorge. I wish most folks felt this way. Our world is really screwed up. I’ll remember to say a prayer for you & your wife. Also for Patrick, & John in Ireland.

    2. I had an intrathecal morphine pump implanted to control my pain (advanced retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma). That went a long way to controlling my pain. The pump had a catheter inserted directly into my spinal cord. If you have intense pain, I highly recommend it.

Our society implicitly expects us to “mask out” facial expressions or body language that normally and naturally accompanies acute pain so as to avoid registering with onlookers that something very unpleasant is occurring with you. I regularly trigger responses from my associates that indicates they have just sensed evidence that I am in so much pain I can’t hide it at a distance of twenty paces. If I can’t camouflage the bulk of these “tells” so my pain remains undetected, I could become effectively ostracized by my friends on a primarily unconscious basis. People ( in general) prefer to hear positive stories, especially from casual acquaintances.
